Job Boards for Web Developers

If you are in the same situation like I am, i.e. looking for a job, I am sure you would be happy to have access to reliable sources, meaning that you know that companies posting vacancies know what Web Standards mean. I found a couple of job boards on the web that I frequently check for new postings (all of them offer rss feeds) and I’d like to share them with you. Continue…

Creating Valid XHTML Documents: The Basics

What are the foundations of a valid XHTML document? What do I need to know about DOCTYPE, XML Prolog and Character Encoding? Until recently, I had quite a hard time answering such questions, but doing some research lately, I hope I found the correct answers. Continue…

Travel - places I have been

My recent trip to Vancouver beginning of February made me think that I have already been to quite a lot of places on this beautiful planet. This brought me to the idea of acutually compiling a list of places (cities/towns, countries) that I was able to visit over the years. Continue…

The clearleft-boys on the Web 2.0-buzz @ SXSW

To make it clear right at the beginning: I am not in Austin, Texas (heck, not even close) where SXSW is taking place. But I found Andy Budd blogging from there. As we all know, using GIFs or JPEGs is definitely the wrong choice in such cases. The best way is usually to find logos in EPS or AI format. I did some research I found some good sources for that. Continue…

GeoLinkr - Map Overlays for your WordPress Blog

Well, when you are in the mood for coding…some weeks ago I had the idea of developing a WordPress plugin that enables the author to easily visualize a location mentioned in a post or on a page. What I came up in the end is GeoLinkr (yeah, I know, greetings from Flickr, I had to follow the trend). To let you know how it works, I created a screenshot-collage. Feel free to check it out. Continue…

JACF - My First WordPress Plugin

Every website needs some service to get in contact with the author/creator of the page. May this be a simple mailto-link or - as it can be found on many sites - a contact form. As I needed one for this blog as well, I figured that this could be a good starting point to practice how to develop a WordPress plugin. The result of my efforts: JACF - Just Another Contact Form, with a screenshot-collage to show you how this works. Continue…
