After some investigation, some playing around, some frustration, some dead-ends…I finally managed to put a photo gallery on this website. And I ended up with…*drumroll*…Flickr. Of course. What else. I decided instead of re-inventing the wheel (again), I might use this rightly popular photo sharing service. And not only because it belongs to Yahoo! now :-).
As you might have guessed, you can find the photo gallery in the photos section. It is powered by a great plugin which basically pulls down the photos from my Flickr account using their great API, caches them and displays them on my page using custom templates. Very nice. I took some minor tweaking (regarding the maximum excecution time for php scripts) but apart form that, it seems to work like a charm. One word about performance: I noticed, just after installing the plugin and trying out if everything is working, that loading images takes pretty long. Might be because of my slow network connection over here or because of congestion on the Flickr end. Feedback regarding this would be highly appreciated. As with any other stuff you spot on this page. Thanks!
Currently there are only 3 galleries in there, but I am planning to put more stuff up soon. Considering this nice feature, I am even more motivated to take and upload some more digicam stuff. So expect more visual impressions from my life in London soon.
