Review

My Rating: 9 out of 10

With this book, Jeremy Keith proofs that not only is he a gifted speaker at various conferences in the Web Development world, but also has the skill to put this in writing—in the form of a book telling you all about DOM Scripting.

After dealing with a little big of history on JavaScript and a ramp-up on the syntax, Jeremy starts with introducing basic DOM methods and what the DOM actually means. He soon after that delves into a hands-on example, a JavaScript gallery which gets refined bit by bit as the book goes on.

Chapter by chapter Jeremy builds up pieces of information for the user who is in chapter 11 able to use all the acquired knowledge to enhance a full web site with the power of DOM Scripting. Jeremy has the ability to get his message across in simple terms and explains what seems difficult for the beginner at first in simple terms.

Bottom line

A wonderful introduction into how JavaScript is supposed to be used these days. Targeted towards beginners and people who are eager to transition from old-school DHTML techniques to modern Web Development. If you look for advanced techniques on the other hand, you might want to chose a different book.
