Squier strats and teles ROCK!!! Great value, great quality, great sound. I put my Tele Squier up against my buddy's Tele Fender in a sound test using the same amp, a side-by-side shoot-out. The Squier sounded *maybe* 5% less good than the Fender one. I assure you any Squier can hold it's won against a Fender US made.
So what if they're made in Japan or Mexico or whatever...isn't everything? Quality controls being as good as they are today, who cares where it's made?
